South Africa is a land rich in cultural and ethnic experiences and has many tourist attractions and destinations

The Zulu Nation in particular has a rich and colourful history. One of the remaining traditions of the Zulu people is that of tribal song and dance.

It is a powerful experience to feel the pounding rhythm of the drums and the eerie ululation of the Zulu women urging the Zulu warriors on as they gyrate around the flickering flames of the campfire. There are fascinating tours through cultural villages where the rural life of old is still practiced. Visitors are offered sips of the traditional sorghum beer and treated to displays of the old fighting skills with sticks and spears.

SANGOMAS are the traditional healers of Africa.

Their followers have absolute belief in their powers, and, in the times of Shaka, the Zulu king, the Sangoma carried the power of life or death over the members of the tribe. The kings used the Sangomas to "smell out" the evildoers, and should the Sangoma point out any individual as being the guilty party, the accused would immediately be put to death in a most gruesome and primitive manner.Today, the Sangomas play a valuable role in prescribing herbal medicines and, of course, dispensing the much- used "love potions. They still "read the bones" and claim to have prophetic powers.

Swazi Dancers are more graceful and gentle, unlike the aggressive displays of Zulu warriors.

One of the oldest cultures is that of the Bushman tribes - or "San". South Africa is the site of some of the most dynamic and well-preserved bushmen paintings in the whole of Africa.

  • South Africa is a land filled with historical museums and galleries.

There are caves to visit, such as the Sudwala Caves - the oldest known caves in the WORLD, and of course, the magnificent Cango Caves.

  • Wines farms in the Cape have wonderful wine routes to follow with producers offering wine- tasting sessions and tours at a nominal fee.

South Africa is a land of sunny beaches, towering mountains, lush tropical vegetation and flat desert wastelands. It is home to the world famous Wetlands of St Lucia.

  • Game Reserves abound, both private and government controlled. The most famous of these is probably the Kruger National Game Park, where the "Big Five" can be viewed {if you are lucky enough to find them in this vast game reserve.

  • There are steam trains such as the famed "Blue Train" - wildly luxurious, and the "Rovos Rail" - almost as extravagantly luxurious!

The attractions here are too many to list! L&J Tours will ascertain what your priorities are, and suggest wonderful experiences for you to choose!
